Monday, May 24, 2004 - 02:06 pm I am thinking of putting together a dictionary for publication, a dictionary that would contain terms, concepts and principles relating to politics. It would be very basic, very fundamental. Aimed at the man in the street. Does anyone know of such a publication already (one that gives tried and true definitions mind!)? Here is a provisional list of entries: Acquired Duty Acquired Right: see rights Bi-cameral legislature Bill of rights Burden of proof Capitalism: see Free enterprise Checks and balances Common law Communism Concentration of powers Constitution Corpus juris Crime Delegation of powers Democracy Double jeopardy Executive branch Fascism Free enterprise Fundamental rights: see rights Globalism Government Habeas corpus Horizontal separation of powers: see Separation of powers Judicial branch Inalienable rights: see rights Law Legislative branch Limited government Majoritarianism Nationalism Natural duty Natural justice Natural law Natural rights Presumption of innocence Punishment Pure democracy: see democracy Representative democracy: see democracy Republic Responsibilities Restitution Right to a public trial Right to face accuser Right to keep and bear arms Right to see evidence Rights Rule of law Separation of powers Socialism Sovereignty Trial by jury Tyranny Vertical separation of power: see Separation of powers
