What would happen if a major hurricane struck New York City?

Because of the population density, a successful evacuation of vulnerable low-lying areas in and around New York City and metropolitan New Jersey would actually have to start sooner than what is typically ordered in Florida and elsewhere, officials have determined based on studies by the Army Corps of Engineers.

But hurricanes move more quickly and become very difficult to predict when they head north of the Carolinas. In a likely scenario, experts say, there might only be hours of warning.

History reveals that New York and the Northeast have been hit hard before, and with little warning. Scientists say the next major hurricane to strike the city is a question of when, not if.

Strange, but I guess it's possible. I was just listening to FOX news and Judge Nepolitano made a statement about Texas State law that I found interesting. First, Texas law gives the homeowner the power to use firearm force aganist anyone who threatens the homeowner's property or loved ones. Next, and I found this interesting, is that Texas law provides that gunowners can band together and use group force to protect the neighborhood. The law also states this can be done in conjunction with the police dept. This means that everyone, who's a gunowner in the 'burb, can help each other to protect everyone's property in the local community. Everybody's in the act. This also means that there can be no gun confiscations( by the National Guard or whoever) like what took place in N.O. The law forbids it. Of course, this doesn't mean that you can take pot shots at anybody, obviously, but I found this in total agreement with the 2nd Amendment and the proper use of such. Also, this would remove the idea that the police are some enemy force and instead make the case that we're all in this together, as citzens. Let's see if there's looting, along the lines what took place in N.O. I believe things will be differant in Texas.

I agree with you, Golfer, as well as with what Derek Skousen and Dr. Stan Monteith discussed on Radio Liberty/Genesis Network today. Troops and FEMA are already in Texas ahead of Rita, as if to make sure that a repeat of New Orleans doesn't reoccur. As Derek mentioned, this time the government will probably try to do it all right so they can say after Hurricane Rita, "You see? When all of you do everything like we say, we CAN and just DID make a difference!"
