Andrew Hudak | Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 06:14 am Hi, I live in Asheboro currently. I have been storing up a little, not as much as I need to be. I have thought about that question a lot. I have friends that live near Asheville, and have talked to them about holding up at their place when it all goes down. They have seen foriegn troops up their in many of the little towns, so I don't want to jump out of the pan into the fire. I guess I haven't fully made up my mind yet. I am getting out of the city though!! Perfect candidates for a lockdown. What are you thinking about doing? |
Rex | Saturday, March 27, 2004 - 11:26 am In recent years I've thought about doing many things I never thought before that I'd ever have to do, at least not here in America. I'm trading paying for what would have been vacations or new cars to pay for building underground shelters for my family instead. I used to think someday I might retire to Asheville, NC since I have visited and loved the Gatlinburg, TN-Asheville, NC area. I was always an east of the Mississippi River type of person and had never even traveled West. Now, if I decide to make a long-distance move, I'd choose the intermountain West because of all the wide, open spaces, less people, less cities and more like-minded people there so it would be easier with friendly people to pick up the pieces after a war. I've quit wasting money at the shopping malls or on impulse shopping. Instead, I have buckled down and purchased first aid kits, backup heating, cooking and lighting equipment and the "boring stuff" instead of splurging on luxury items. Between luxury and having fun vs. trying to survive, only a fool puts their money on fun. I also take time to inform and educate all the people I care about and anyone else who shows interest in or senses the coming war. If they don't prepare, that's their problem, but they can't say later that I didn't warn them. I try not to sound preachy or tell them what to do. I usually start by mentioning a current event and something I read on the Internet news sites or a story that appeared in Joel's "World Affairs Brief," then I ask them to think about it and tell me if they sense the same things in the future as I do. A few years ago hardly anyone sensed what I fear is on the way. After 911 quite a few people sense the same problems erupting in the near-future. I'm also studying, brushing up on my survival skills to learn to become more self-sufficient. Most importantly, I think putting one's spiritual life in order should top anyone's "to do" list as we face a troubled and uncertain future. People can learn all the survival skills they want, move to a safer location or go to their underground shelters, but if they forget to prepare spiritually, they will be caught off guard and all their earthly survival preparations will be useless. |
Marc | Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 10:26 pm I'm between Burlington and Durham looking to move out to the country, preferably south of I-85. We'd like to buy 5 acres and become more independant of energy resources that we buy. Land is expensive, though, so we'll see how far we get. Would like to hook up with more folks that are like minded, to exchange ideas. To survive in the future will require communities of folks that can work well together. |
