I'm really looking into this area and like it a lot, but it seems employment in my field (programming) isn't easy to come by. Also, seems property is a little on the pricey side for anything convienient to work. Any suggestions from the locals??
You are right on all counts.
The upstate area of South Carolina--especially Greenville, has a fairly thriving economy, with very reasonable land cost convenient to town. It is also very conservative in nature.
Add to that, you are in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains and getting out of town quickly isn't difficult if you know your way around.
We've enjoyed this the past 3 years!
