Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 11:57 pm Any comments on the surronding areas specifically the mountainous N.E. or ?......except for a few years travaling the globe ,via USAF, I've lived in central FL. I love winter but am unsure of a "REAL" winter as Idaho provides. How long, how cold, highs/lows/avg? In those mountain areas around Boise?

Tuesday, October 09, 2001 - 09:55 pm Steven, we are from Central Florida too--also considering Idaho (and Montana and Wyoming). I lived in Montana for quite a few years and, as one Floridian to another, the dry cold of Montana didn't bother me. It doesn't seem to penetrate unless you're in it too long while inadequately dressed. I've been watching daily temps in quite a few areas for the past year. The mountains of Idaho shift much of the cold Canadian weather around to Montana, leaving Idaho a few degrees warmer. Not saying it isn't cold in Idaho, just that it's a little warmer than other areas in that part of the US.

Friday, October 26, 2001 - 09:28 pm Hey ,thanks for commenting ,you got my curiosity up (since your from my area)it's been hard to find like minded idividuals I'm honestly tired of talking to people about current events and such, either God is setting ,my family and I aside for a specific purpose in the future ,or I'm just a confused/paranoid/self preserving fool. Anyways,we've chosen Idaho for obvious reasons(low regulations ,exceptionaly clean/low polution, practically no home school laws, low humidity, seasons, room to roam, mtns.,it's Beautiful! what general local were you considering?... in idaho that is?

Friday, October 26, 2001 - 10:43 pm I almost hate to comment and give our secret away. Our family moved here 3 years ago from Portland, Oregon (though we do miss the flowers and ocean in Oregon) we feel so lucky to have picked Idaho. We live in the Sun Valley area actually 15 mi south and just love it down here with the cowboys. The wealth is astounding of course and the politics very left but only in this county. We have found that most Americans anywhere you live these days have that someone will take care of me mentality. But since Idaho has hardly any people and lots of room one can easily get away. The Winters are cold but being at this elev. the sun is very warm. There is lots to do especially for children. We home school and are part of the well organized home school network here. The above author was right there are no laws regarding home schooling in fact people are quite used to it. There is a very liberal group though in this county that is trying to regulate it so far with no luck. We feel very safe in this location 120 miles from Boise though concerned about the military base 90 miles away in Mountain Home, Idaho. We are commited to staying in the clean air environment for quite some time. Good Luck to you all from the quiet mountains of Idaho.

Friday, October 29, 2004 - 06:27 pm Gang violence puts Idaho on edge Gunfire and gang violence are alarming people in this farm town where the usual background noise is the reassuring chug of field machinery. Since July, police have received more than 100 reports of shots fired in Caldwell, a town of 30,000 halfway between Boise and the Oregon line. Two young men have been killed and several more wounded in drive-by shootings. Police believe most of the violence is gang-related. Authorities are increasing patrols, and for the first time, neighborhood watches are springing up in Caldwell, a community that for decades has typified small-town conservatism and the farmland work ethic. Many are asking themselves how big-city gang problems reached their quiet corner of the West. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20041028/D860JCO80.html
