As far as Taxes and Regulations goes, Wyoming looks pretty good. Whats it like to live there?

Check archives regarding a prior Wyoming message that we added to the list because of our own personal experiences living in Wyoming for 2 years. Can't remember the name of the archive file, but it was about re-location in Wyoming. Another message came in after ours confirming they were experiencing the same things we had. Good luck!

I have a lot at Star Valley Ranch and in the early stages of planning a home there. My best friend lives in Afton, and he has a good handle on happenings there. How can I help?

Wyoming is better on taxes than neighboring Montana and I recommend it. I lived in southern Montana for quite a few years. Then about 3 years ago we considered moving to Thermopolis, Wyoming. At the time there was plenty of reasonable real estate for sale but last time I checked, half of the countty had decided to move to Thermop, apparently, because there was nothing reasonable for sale. But perhaps that has changed now with the downturn in real estate. If you are choosing inside the US, I recommend Wyoming.

There exists in Star Valley a peace that's hard to describe. As far as the moral fabric of the community goes, picture America 50 or 60 years ago, and that's how it seems to me. Of course the price tag is cold weather, not so much wind as other places in WY, but cold enough to snow in the hills even in the summer months.

We've visited mostly in the summer, late summer, in fact. We're from FL, so any cold is exagerated to us, but snow is snow. Our friend is here this week, and she said it snowed in the hills above Afton. It melted, but there you have it (mid August).

I'm interested, as long as property prices aren't to high. One question I guess- Is Afton a good place to start? Thanks

Well, I hesitate to let this place outta the bag, so to speak. If you don't mind very cold weather and you like Mormons (the valley was originally settled by Mormon pioneers), this is an idyllic locale.
