Hi there! I'm considering Whitefish County as a possible place to relocate from New York. (I know, I know. Of all the places in this Republic I just had to conclude that Montana was the place to move to.) I would appreciate any information & personal experiences from residents. Thanks!!

Dear Ivan. I think you mean Whitefish lake in Flathead county. Its a beautiful but VERY expensive. Back in 1982 lakefront property was going for $50.00 per inch!! Also they don't take to kindly to strangers, so if you decide to come out here, try not to let them know that you are from New York. They will treat you nice to your face but behind your back is a different matter. I'm from upstate (Sullivan county). Where are you from? Take care - Marcusa56@hotmail.com

does anyone think missoula area of montana would be good ,ie no military bases that i can think of although way too close to the interstate 90 which will be totally controlled in a nat'l emergency(but there are some back roads into the mountains) There was a problem developing because of the mining waste sediment deposited behind the Milltown dam 8 miles east which could of entered the Missoula aquifer soon, thank god they have decided to clean it up before it plumes into the missoula aquifer. The air quality can be bad at times. The people are being infiltrated by left wing types that come from the big cities.

I also wonder about Libby, montana. If the dam bursts up there most of the water will go UP the Fisher river vally and not ruin Libby. But they have an asbestos problem there and people could get sick. I am a renter and rents are cheap there.
Supposedly the gov't has troops in an OLD air base facility up in the Yaak area in Lincoln county that has underground holding cells etc. The one or two people that have noticed it THINK it is for use to cover the border with canada, but it could be an interment camp too!

In Sandpoint idaho they are expanding the airport runway to accomadate jets . This is bad. One close friend of mine that worked on the airport improvements to the building said they had all these tiny rooms being built in the airport.Cells? anyway any airport over a certain length all over america is a nuke target i had been told way back in the mid eighties.

The more and more i think about it I'd like to go visit Dayton ,Tennessse because there was a good article about it in the nat'l geographic mag. this month or last.Real moral conservative place, about 5000 people.

As for myself life got in the way when i left the mid atlatic states in the mid 80's for alaska and the west. I can raise wonderful gardens and raise fruit trees and all but have no real skills, well i do have some, but these days what i DO have now pays only like 6 .or 7. 00 per hour. I am divorced and rents are high in most non-inner city places.I don't like the crime of the cities and even hate the thought of living in Boise or Nampa or Caldwell idaho (ada and canyon counties) . i have lived there in the past but as in other prevoiusly nice places in days of old they are now "rat-race" lebiral places. Just look in the free ad papers in the back. That was not how Boise was even ten years ago. They average 10 drive by shootings a year alone in Nampa. The place has been found out and it is a parking lot on Interstate -84 often times because of all these new people and thier cars.Plus ya have Gowan field where the air nat'l guard and Mountain home air force base about 90 miles away where there is a fighter wing.
So then ya need room mates because rents are so high and i am a type "A" personality , not too good for roomate situation.

There is really no SAFE place to live at,(unless ya really followed the course after high school and had good guidence and have a carreer),there are places to run to if ya can when ya have to go... but that is such a tentative and precarious way to plan but i guess it's the best some of us renters can evolve too. any comments anyone? thanks for your time .blab

Hey Blab: Missoula, population over 50,000 makes it a target as well as I-90. Lincoln county has an old air base? What was the name? I'm retired from the USAF & never heard of one there. You would be better to go south of Belgrade MT. Gallatin county area. But Western MT is much better than where I am (Great Falls, MT). Write me at marcus56@hotmail.com. Later. Marcus

Ivan,
I agree with Dafonz. The Whitefish are is extremely expensive with most people there California or Colorado yuppies.
You might look at the towns Wolf Creek, Craig, and Cascade. They are located about 35 miles north or Henela ( off RT 15) near the Missouri River, It is gorgeous country with good land prices and an easy commute to Helena for work.
My husband and I are relocating there this summer from South Dakota. South Dakota is beautiful, but too dry, and no water.
