Friday, January 05, 2001 - 03:23 pm Montana may or may not be an ideal place to start a survival minded group. But who is willing to try?

Sunday, June 09, 2002 - 02:36 pm I'm from Flathead Valley originally but I've never lived there as an adult, too expensive! My mom is considering deading me a property she ownes out toward Bigfork by Echo Lake. I'm wondering if there're any readers to this thread who live out there or who know someone who does. What kind of people live out there? Are they from CA or back east? This 20 acre undeveloped plot of land is supposedly worth $250k! How do these neighbors come in to all their money? What's zoning like out there? I'm thinking of putting up concrete dome structures by American Inginuities(sp?). Any ideas of what kind of off-grid equipment would be good out there? Echo creek goes right through the property so hydro might be an option but don't let the neighbors find out!

Friday, November 08, 2002 - 06:05 pm I am from the Rogers PAss area in Montana. On Highway 200 between Great Falls and Missoula. It depends on the area as to what kind of people live there. I live rent free on a property in front of a little subdivision. I guess that is what you would call it. Rocky Mountain Timberlands bought a ranch years ago and cut it into 20 acre parcels. It is about 2 to 3 square miles in area. In that area there are 22 parcels that have cabins on them. None have grid electricity or line telephones. 2 or 3 have nice solar/wind/diesel systems and satellite phone. Only 5 or 6 are inhabited year round. Most of the parcels are wooded. As there are not many people out back we pretty much have the place to ourselves for hunting purposes if we needed to hunt. I stockpiled extra trading supplies in case a crash occurs and people come up. 20 acre parcels are about $25,000 when they come up for sale. If that piece is worth $250,000 your best bet for survival purposes might be to sell and buy a small 160 acre piece and build a secure home from scratch. Across the road is a nice wooded parcel of about 600+ acres. They might be willing to split it. They were asking for $1,100 an acre. If you want to develop your (YAAK) property I might be able to help you with information. I used to do survival consulting for 2 small nondenominational churches in Wisconsin. I have a personal library of over 10,000 volumes. About the possibility of running hydro without the neighbors finding out... Give me some info about the stream. How wide? Fish? How steep are the banks? I have been working on some ideas for a book on survival retreating I am trying to write. One of my ideas was for a dam for hydro and stocking a pond that one person could build and that the people downstream would not notice. As for concrete domes.. I have heard of them and read a little bit about them. My preference is log homes. Mainly because I know how to run a sawmill. If you are looking for any kind of info please email me Bookman392@yahoo.com

Saturday, January 18, 2003 - 03:31 pm Any Christian Ranchers in Montana willing to sell a 360 acre or larger piece of timbered land under the following conditions: Low price, and if we decide to sell, you would get first shot at it, at the cost we originally paid. All structures and permanent improvements would be our loss and your gain if we sold it back. We would prefer at least 360 acres with a slight rise in the center and no high ground for at least 2000 yards around. Also a stream or springs would be nice. It should also be at least 20 miles from the nearest missle silo. The more remote the better it is. We are a group of families from the Helena area. All Christians. We are looking for a place to live in safety when bad times come. And for at least one family to live permanently. Care for orchards, gardens, and animals. I am a sawmill operator, was trained in Police Science, worked construction. Currently I do online counselling as I am also an ordained minister. My wife and I have a daughter and one child on the way. We believe in homebirth, homeschooling, 2nd Amendment, herbal medicine, survivalism and self sufficiency. I have a personal library of over 12,000 volumes (and growing). Email me for more info if you have or know of someone who has some land availible. Thank you and God bless.
