Sunday, April 23, 2000 - 08:29 pm It's a nice area. There are three colleges in the area, including James Madison University. Cost of living isn't too bad (especially compared to Northern VA/Washington DC). The area is growing due to the expanding schools but it is a very conservative area. Most of the surrounding area is farmland with a lot of Mennonites (there's self sufficiency for you). And the added benefit of people probably willing to barter during times of crisis. Population is about 60,000 and it drops about 15,000 in the summer. Massaunutten resort is in the area so there is local recreation but also tourists travelling coming and going. It is a very pretty area.

Saturday, February 17, 2001 - 06:53 pm I spoke with Joel about Western VA as I live on the VA Coast. He suggested TN or at least getting one Mountain Range between where you want to be and the Norfolk/DC/Raleigh-Durham corridor. We considered Lexington/Rockbridge county also. Bottom line, we are still decidedly "up in the air on the move. I would rather find someone like-minded who already lived in the potential area and help them build/upgrade/stock their facility.

Saturday, October 06, 2001 - 03:40 pm I live in Dickenson County which is in the far western part of the state. Mountainous, friendly people, rural, fairly isolated, very low crime rate. Residents appreciate their right to bear arms. Closest target is Oak Ridge, TN which is a long way off.

Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 12:39 pm I live in Raphine Virginia in Rockbridge county, and away from mass people, rural and about 25 achers. I am looking to build a shelter in the woods in the ridge, I have been studing Geo. around here and trying to learn more on whats underground, we have 4 wells on this property. Anyone with any ideas I am open to listen, pluss not far from west Virginia and it looks like a safe location also. Thinking of getting some horses incase all roads are blocked, and carry fence cutters to get threw. Valerie

Saturday, October 01, 2005 - 10:02 am Even Virginia Has an Illegal Immigration Problem Who would have thought that a state as far from our national borders as Virginia would have a serious illegal alien problem. But, since the federal government has failed to secure our borders and enforce immigration laws, that is exactly what's happened. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/29/AR2005092902264.html
